  Guiding Shadows

More than a name on Granite stone

Don’t you know who I am?
Surely you do for I once knew you
My spirit remembers yours
In another place at another time
Don’t you know who I am?
I once breathed beside you
I knew you then - and you knew me
My name is written on granite stone

But this is not all there is of me
For I am a part of your life you see
You carry me with you friend
My spirit carries you in the wind
I have left part of me in each place
And part of you I’ve left there too
Perhaps you fail to notice as I pass you by
I sometimes wear shades of blue

Now we are our forefather's shadow
We are shadows of those gone before
Shadows of those we never knew?
As we travel the dusty roads
To the young we lay down our shadows
All studded in morning dew.
