Mystery of the Forest
In the forest where trees grow tall
Branches interlaced against the sky
All around me is lush and green
My thoughts of fancy freely fly!
Along the winding trail I move
In shade or deepening shadow
What stillness pervades the air?
In this holy twilight hour!
Shades upon shade of every hue
Sun’s slanted rays in waning light
Woody scents come through together
Pale stars welcome this lovely night
The air is uplifting and clean
Within these woods where spirits reign
Pealing back the years of life
I somehow become a child again!
It was here our ancestors wandered
Through the splendour of many springs
The brook murmurs on amid the pines
Through misty smiles nature sings
The mystery of the forest is forever
Down through the slow changing years
Natures stirring drama plays on. . .
Kissed by the sun a fairyland appears!
